Just a month after receiving a Grammy Award in 2018, band members David and Anthony retreated to New York to work on new demos. The sessions laid the foundation for I Don't Live Here Anymore. More sessions followed over three years at seven different studios, including Electric Lady in New York and Sound City in Los Angeles. One of the most memorable sessions took place in May 2019, when the track "Living Proof" was created live during a session with musicians.
