Amsterdam singer-songwriter VanWyck presents God is in The Detour, a personal lockdown album. When her planned recordings and theater tour could not go ahead, other songs suddenly appeared from her hands. VanWyck: "I had the detour idea in my head for a while. That you sometimes gain new insights when things don't go according to plan, when you have to take a detour. In fact, that those are the moments when magical things can happen, precisely when you let go of the reins and end up in unexpected places. Both in life and in music. With the lockdown, that detour suddenly became a necessity. I had been busy realizing another album before that. An ambitious project with orchestral arrangements, for which I was going to go to England, but that was suddenly no longer possible. In the time that remained, I wrote quite a few songs that stood out precisely because of their simplicity. I decided to record them as much as possible in one take with Reyer Zwart in a small studio in Halfweg. The result is an intimate and personal album that will be released on October 30th by Concerto Records. The title track of the album will be released as a single on September 18th. It has become an exuberant, cheerful song that derails in a pleasant way, a plea to to welcome the unexpected with open arms.
