Dutch punk rock band Tusky releases self-titled album 'Tusky'

Utrecht's Tusky proves that punk rock is alive and well in 2024 with their energetic, fist-in-your-face songs on their new album: 'Tusky'. The album will be released on March 8, 2024 via Suburban Records.

Despite this being the band's fourth work, it has become a self-titled album. With a strikingly simple, brown, cover. "With this fourth record we wanted to go back to what Tusky really is," guitarist Sjors van Reeuwijk explains. "We also hope that the artwork will ensure that the album will be popularly called ""The Brown Album""..."

In the past, the band has done a lot in the field of recording and production, but by building their own studio, they have created a space where they could record their latest album in peace. “It’s great when you have your own space, where you can experiment endlessly with your amplifiers, pedals, guitars, microphones. We could go on forever, but we could also take a dip in a nearby lake during the break,” says singer Vladimir Stevic.

Unlike 2022's 'What's For Dinner?', which was written separately, 'Tusky' is the first album written together, in the current line-up, with the four of us. "It's a perfect mix of our four styles," says bassist Quirin Wijgers. "From rag-and-ram work to tracks that are based on completely different emotions, such as goosebump track Hommage To Decay".

Lyrically, subjects such as consumer society, digital bubbles, loneliness, inclusivity and mental health are discussed. “Ultimately, you write about what you find important,” says drummer Bas Allein Richir. “These are of course the beautiful things, but also the things that you find difficult and that you worry about.”

After the songs were critically reviewed during the pre-production process and the right sound was found, the recordings took about three weeks. After that, the songs were mixed by Adrian Bushby. Adrian is known for his work with Foo Fighters, Spice Girls and My Bloody Valentine. “He contacted us years ago, because he would like to work with us sometime. Back then there was no possibility, but now there is,” says Sjors. The mastering was done by Grant Berry (Taking Back Sunday, Deaf Havana, All Time Low).

Anyone who has ever seen Tusky live will understand why the band is known as one of the most energetic bands in the Netherlands, where it is always a party. From the upcoming tour, that party will be even bigger, because Michiel van Iersel (Mayleaf, No Turning Back, Kings of Schrobbeler) will join Tusky on guitar, so that Vlad can fully focus on the vocals - and the circle pits of course.

With this album Tusky goes back to basics. By building their own studio they have given themselves the space to spend all their time on what really matters: the songs. And then everything around it can take a step back.

'Tusky' is available as digipak with lyrics poster, and on white vinyl in gatefold sleeve. The inside of the artwork contains many photos by Thomas Hietbrink and handwritten lyrics, designed by Justin Ghijsen of helloiamjustin.
