Het album is voorzien van het unieke artwork van Gerald Scarfe en bevat de singles “Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2,” een nummer 1 hit in de UK en de VS, “Run Like Hell” en “Comfortably Numb”. Het werd vervolgens verfilmd door Alan Parker, met Bob Geldof in de hoofdrol van Pink, een uitgebluste rockster wiens uiteindelijke zelfopgelegde isolement van de maatschappij wordt gesymboliseerd door een muur.
