Nothing's About to Happen to Me verscheen op 27 februari 2026 via Dead Oceans en werd door Mitski zelf beschreven als een conceptalbum over een vrouw die zich in verwaarloosde eenzaamheid terugtrekt uit de maatschappij. Ze wilde bewust een bandgeluid, stripped-down en organisch, geproduceerd door vaste partner Patrick Hyland, met orkestrale arrangementen van Drew Erickson opgenomen in Sunset Sound en TTG Studios. Het resultaat balanceert tussen kwetsbare, poëtische eenvoud en absurdistische humor — zoals op het hilarische "That White Cat" — en toont Mitski op haar meest onvoorspelbaar sinds Be the Cowboy. Critici waren unaniem lovend: The Guardian, NME en The Skinny gaven het album de volle honderd punten. Elf nummers vol angstige gitaren, melancholische strijkers en dat kenmerkende, doorleefde vertellerschap dat haar tot een van de scherpste songwriters van haar generatie maakt.
