'Decoy' is een opname uit 1983 met toetsenist Robert Irving III en gitarist John Scofield die de meeste composities en de andere solo's bijdroegen. Miles in een soort overgangsfase die net een paar jaar eerder met pensioen is gegaan. Goede ondersteuning van vooral de ritmesectie, de Rolling Stones-tourbassist Daryll "The Munch" Jones op bas en Al Foster op de drums. Uitstekend sopraanwerk ook van Branford Marsalis. Dit album definieert een geheel nieuwe benadering van improvisatie. Zoals gewoonlijk is Miles de ultieme combinatie van de luisteraar en het creatieve genie.
