In 2017, Mercy John surprised Dutch Americana lovers with his album 'This Ain't New York' full of beautiful, layered songs with beautiful lyrics. This was followed in 2019 by the even better received album 'Let It Go Easy', an album that received great reviews and made him an established name in the genre. With the EP 'Cruel Love', Mercy John delivers a beautiful addition to both albums. 'Cruel Love' contains six songs from the first two albums but in an acoustic version, performed completely solo. Armed with nothing more than an acoustic guitar, a harmonica and his beautiful characteristic voice, John shows how the songs remain rock solid even without a full band. "During a solo show I often hear the essence of a song again, sometimes a song in all its simplicity with vocals and acoustic guitar even has more power. I wanted to capture that feeling on 'Cruel Love'", says John.
