Visitor is John Moreland’s first album since his 2022 folk-electonica foray ‘Birds In The Ceiling’. The subsequent tour was difficult for him and Moreland decided to take a break from music and the internet. After almost a decade in the spotlight, constantly living under the pressure of the expectations of his audience, the music industry and anonymous strangers online, he took some time off to rest and reflect for the first time. The result of that year at home is Visitor. An intimate folk-rock record that goes back to the foundation of his breakthrough albums ‘In The Throes’ and ‘High on Tulsa Heat’ in terms of sound and approach. Moreland recorded the album in just ten days at his home in Bixby, Oklahoma, playing almost everything himself. “Simplicity and directness were very important to the process,” he says. - Bob van der Staak
