New Goat album! 'Medicine' sees the group deviate from their enigmatic past, adopting a more introspective and gentle psych-folk sound. The album exudes a consistent and warm atmosphere, with a thematic focus on the transience of life, exploring themes of illness, relationships, love and mortality. Throughout the album, influences from classic Swedish psych/prog/folk acts from the 70s, such as Arbete & Fritid, Charlie & Esdor, and Träd, Gräs & Stenar, are evident. On tracks like 'Vakna' these influences are clearly audible, punctuated by swinging guitar solos. The title track 'Medicine' could refer to a cure, or to the meaning of relationships and love. Goat explores the potential of psychedelics, meditation, learning from others and maintaining curiosity as ways to find solace and defy fixed identities. The album features a prominent flute presence, weaving through several tracks, including opener “Impermanence And Death,” elegantly complementing synth lines on “You’ll Be Alright,” and leading the melody on closer “Tripping In The Graveyard.” “TSOD,” backed by sitar and acoustic guitar, features a memorable vocal melody reminiscent of a long-lost George Harrison recording. The album version of single “I Became The Unemployment Office” humorously references abuse. Penultimate track “Join The Resistance” delivers an echoey groove that builds to a climax with a heavy Sabbath-esque riff. So, whatever your taste in (medicine) drugs, it’s time to experience the musical medicine Goat have prescribed.
