The music of his teenage years rekindled Eagle-Eye Cherry’s energy as he sat down to write his sixth studio album, Back on Track, set for release on January 21, 2023. In the past few years, when the world felt lost, Eagle-Eye Cherry began to question his profession. He saw healthcare workers struggling with something that really mattered and wondered what his own role was. At the same time, however, he missed the opportunity to share the live experience of music with other people and came to the conclusion that what he does is indeed important. Hence the title of his sixth studio album: Back on Track. Many of the songs were recorded just before the pandemic escalated, but when the process was postponed, more songs came to life. When Eagle-Eye was spending most of his time at home and had time to improve his cooking skills, he started listening to the music he had loved as a teenager again and started buying his own records: Talking Heads (his family neighbors on Long Island in the 80s), Blondie, The Clash, Modern Lovers. The influences may not be obvious, but there was something about the energy that Eagle-Eye found incredibly inspiring. This resulted in 12 tracks on the vinyl version of Back on Track and 13 tracks on CD and digital. Most of the album tracks were recorded at Atlantis studio, a few at Peter Kvint's studio and one at Strawberry Studios in Töreboda. Eagle-Eye collaborated on the songwriting with Peter Kvint, Anders Pettersson, David Lindgren Zacharias and Joel Sjöö, and a song Eagle-Eye wrote with Cameron McVey in 2007 was revived by British singer/songwriter Will Varley.
