With Doe Maar's second studio album Skunk, the band broke through to the general Dutch public. "Sinds 1 dag of 2 (32 jaar)" became their first Top 40 hit, after which "Smoorverliefd" made it to the tipparade. The catchy songs on the album are characterized by their effective mix of ska and punk. The first album brought the band numerous musical possibilities and the chemistry between them is clearly noticeable. Lyrically, the men managed to bring more depth to their music, with which Skunk formed the prelude to the great national successes.
