It is well known that Clean Pete has an endless fascination for Christmas. The twin sisters Loes and Renée Wijnhoven have released a Christmas single every year and crowned that last year with a very first Christmas show in a sold-out Doornroosje in Nijmegen. The Christmas fever turned out to be of longer duration. expensive and that ultimately resulted in a great Christmas album: Gloria.
On the album, which will be released on November 15, Clean Pete - just like at their Christmas shows - pulls out all the stops with many special guests. Songs about longing, broken hearts and impending break ups, but always with Christmas as a red-green thread.
The album has thirteen tracks with contributions ranging from Thijs Boontjes to Lucky Fonz III. Not a bell rings too many on these Dutch Christmas classics in the making, such as the heartbreaking song with Ruben Hein and an equally exciting and hilarious Christmas story by Stefano Keizers. On Volhouden tot Kerst the twins, together with Niek Nellen (Afterpartees), challenge Fairytale of New York and with the Flemish Pieter Embrechts a new Dutch Christmas chanson seems to be born in Haal Mij Over.
Also some age-old Christmas melodies should not be missing: Album opener Donkere Nacht sparkles with modern harmonies and the necessary synths. And together with Lea Kliphuis the oriental We Three Kings gets a touch of country. In addition, the previously released singles with Marien Dorleijn (Moss), Anne Soldaat and Moon Moon Moon should not be missing on the record.
In short, this first Dutch-language Indie Christmas record goes in all directions. One moment you feel like sitting in front of that crackling fire with your loved one, the next moment the remains of the Christmas tree are smoldering in that same fire and that sweetheart is nowhere to be seen.
