"Vol. 4" (1972) is het vierde studioalbum van Black Sabbath en markeerde een experimentele, doch chaotische periode voor de band, sterk beïnvloed door hun intensieve drugsgebruik, met name cocaïne. Het album, oorspronkelijk bedoeld om "Snowblind" te heten (een directe verwijzing naar cocaïne), werd uiteindelijk door de platenmaatschappij hernoemd naar het simpelere "Vol. 4".

Het album toonde Black Sabbath's pogingen om hun sound uit te breiden buiten de pure doom metal. Hoewel het nog steeds vol zit met kenmerkende zware riffs, bevat het ook meer melodieuze passages en onverwachte stilistische wendingen. Denk aan de rauwe energie van "Supernaut" en "Tomorrow's Dream", de iconische ode aan drugs "Snowblind", en de verrassende piano-ballad "Changes", die de kwetsbare kant van Ozzy Osbourne liet zien.
