Highway To Hell (1979) werd geproduceerd door Robert John "Mutt" Lange en was de eerste plaat van de band die de Amerikaanse top 100 haalde. Met de titeltrack, "Girls Got Rhythm" en "Touch Too Much" combineert de band rauwe blues-rock riffs met een net iets gepolijstere, radiovriendelijke productie dan op eerdere albums — zonder ook maar iets van hun energie in te leveren. Het album wordt algemeen gezien als het moment waarop AC/DC hun definitieve geluid vond, en bleef tot Back In Black hun bestverkopende plaat.
