Everything is more beautiful when the sun shines on it. This realization arises when listening to Earth Tones, Timo van Lierop's debut album. He radiantly expresses his deepest being, the things that ground him. Timo is his own sun. Many will know him from Mooon, the band he has successfully maintained with his two cousins for over ten years. About five years ago, Timo unconsciously drew closer to himself and wrote a bunch of songs that he felt did not suit Mooon. At home in Aarle-Rixtel he improvised a studio and started recording. He did everything himself. It resulted in a collection of fully developed, beautiful pop songs with catchy hooks and indelible choruses that he reluctantly showed as home recordings to friends and acquaintances. The Jeff Tweedy of the Low Countries! The Kurt Vile from this side of the ocean! Teenage Fan Club after immersion in a barrel of Americana! Everyone who had heard the home recordings knew for sure: this had to be recorded! Bottom Shelf Records felt called and took on the rewarding task. Earth Tones is a fact. The ten songs stand like beach houses on a concrete base, they nestle in your subconscious and rear their heads when you cycle to the supermarket for a six-pack of beer or when you leave the dentist's treatment room unscathed.
