Het vierde studioalbum van Earth, Wind & Fire, en het moment waarop Maurice White zijn unieke mix van soul, funk, gospel en Afrikaans-Latijnse invloeden definitief consolideerde. Open Our Eyes (1974) bereikte de nummer 1-positie in de Billboard Soul Albums-lijst en werd platina gecertificeerd in de VS, met de top 10 soul-hits "Mighty Mighty" en "Devotion" als absolute hoogtepunten. Spiritueel, funky en verrassend jazzy, met instrumentale pareltjes als "Kalimba Story," "Drum Song" en "Caribou" die de warme, organische productie van EWF in de jaren '70 volledig tot z'n recht laten komen.
