Lorde returns with 'Virgin' and a show in Amsterdam

After four years of silence , Lorde will make her long-awaited comeback on June 27, 2025 with the album Virgin . The New Zealand singer, known for hits such as " Royals" and " Green Light", is taking a new, deeply personal path with her fourth studio album . The project explores themes such as gender identity, bodily autonomy and inner transformation.
An album that pushes boundaries
Virgin is a bold step in Lorde's artistic journey. The title track features the striking line, “ Some days I'm a woman / Some days I'm a man,” with which Lorde shares her experience with gender fluidity . In an interview with Rolling Stone, she describes herself as a cisgender woman who sometimes feels “ in the middle ” and resists strict labels .
The album 's production also marks a break with the past . After previous collaborations with Jack Antonoff , Lorde this time chose producer Jim -E Stack , known for his work with Bon Iver and Danielle Haim. This choice reflects her need for a fresh, intuitive approach.
Controversial album cover: an x-ray image as a statement
The Virgin album cover immediately caught my attention: a blue-tinted X-ray of a pelvis with a visible IUD . Lorde shared the image on Instagram , calling it an expression of “ complete transparency.” Fans praise it as a powerful symbol of female autonomy and openness about reproductive health.
The cover fits into Lorde's broader theme for the album, in which she explores her body and identity . She describes the album as an attempt to capture her femininity in all its complexity , including androgynous aspects .
