Little Simz bloeit op met Lotus

Little Simz blossoms with Lotus

On June 6, 2025, Lotus , the sixth studio album by British rapper Little Simz, was released. Following the introspective No Thank You (2022) and the experimental EP Drop 7 (2024), Lotus marks a new chapter in Simz's musical journey. The album is all about transformation and growth, with the lotus flower as a powerful symbol: a flower that blooms in muddy waters, just as Simz transforms her own challenges into art.

The tone is set with lead single “Flood,” a collaboration with Obongjayar and Moonchild Sanelly. The track opens with pounding drums and Simz’ signature raw flow, backed by Miles Clinton James’ hypnotic production.

Lotus is steeped in personal experience. On songs like “Thief” and “Hollow,” Simz vents her frustrations over a legal battle with her former producer Inflo, who reportedly owes her £1.7 million.

Yet Lotus also offers moments of reflection and beauty. “Blood,” a duet with Wretch 32, explores the complexities of family ties, while the title track “Lotus” is a soulful collaboration with Michael Kiwanuka. Other highlights include “Young” and “Lion,” which find Simz playfully experimenting with worldly influences and her signature laidback style.

A star cast of collaborations

The album features contributions from an impressive list of artists including Obongjayar, Moonchild Sanelly, Lydia Kitto, Moses Sumney, Miraa May, Yukimi Nagano, Wretch 32, Cashh, Michael Kiwanuka, Yussef Dayes and Sampha.

With Lotus , Little Simz confirms her position as one of the most innovative voices in the British hip-hop scene. The album is a daring mix of personal revelations and musical innovation, with Simz pushing boundaries and sharing her story with unparalleled honesty.
