Icelandic - Chinese singer and multi- instrumentalist Laufey has announced her third studio album , A Matter of Time , set for release on August 22, 2025 via Vingolf Recordings and AWAL. Following the Grammy- winning Bewitched ( 2023 ) , Laufey strikes a more candid and expressive tone with this new work , focusing on themes of love, loss and personal growth .
In an interview with People Laufey describes the album as “ an album about female emotions,” in which she explores the complexity and imperfection of herself . She lets loose her “ inner monster” and sings with more confidence than ever before.
The album 's first two singles , " Silver Lining" and " Tough Luck", demonstrate this new direction. “ Silver Lining” is a love song that explores the liberation and vulnerability of falling in love , while “ Tough Luck” is a fiery reflection on a failed relationship, in which Laufey reveals an angry and assertive side of herself .
For the production of A Matter of Time Laufey collaborated with her regular producer Spencer Stewart and with Aaron Dessner, known for his work with Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran . The album combines her signature blend of jazz and classical influences with bigger pop sounds and a more extroverted tone.
Laufey, born on April 23, 1999 in Reykjavík , grew up between Iceland and Washington D.C. Her mother is a classical violinist and her grandfather was a violin teacher at the Central Conservatory of Music in China. At age 15 , she performed as a cello soloist with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra and later graduated from Berklee College of Music .
With A Matter of Time Laufey shows that she is not afraid to explore new musical paths and share her emotions unfiltered . The album promises to offer a deeper and more honest look at her artistic vision , further cementing her position as one of the most intriguing voices of her generation .
The album will be released on August 22, 2025 and is available to order now on vinyl in a blue vinyl edition and a red vinyl edition .
